Part of the Dance in Albany Series
A creative tour-de-force for over a quarter century, Ellen Sinopoli’s dance partners range from painters and sculptors, musicians, poets, and storytellers, to photographers and physicists. Expect a mix of audience favorites and new works performed by her company of compelling, athletic and versatile dancers.
In celebration of its 25th season as the resident dance company of The Egg in Albany, the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company (ESDC) will perform at The Egg on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 8 pm in a program that will feature two new works from this season as well as repertory pieces that highlight the company’s collaborative projects and its diverse selection of musical compositions. The evening will begin with a 7:15 pm prelude talk given by Artistic Director Ellen Sinopoli.
The two new works from this season are:
Embedded Façade – Set to contemporary classical music for string quartet by area composer Bruce Craig Roter, this piece was part of ESDC’s collaborative project with four composers from the College of St. Rose.
Aftermath – A collaborative multi-media project with composer and acoustic guitarist Maria Zemantauski and digital artist David Allen that explores the intersection of expressive movement, music and computational interfaces.
The remainder of the program will feature:
Brink – Powerhouse movement catapults the dancers through the jazz grooves of trumpet player Dave Douglas.
A Gathering in Red, Departing – With music by Cornelius Dufallo, a virtuosic and versatile acoustic and electric violinist, this dance captures the sweep and breath of his compelling score. The music was commissioned by ESDC.
For the 4th year, this concert will feature ESDC’s Egg Kids project. Capital Region dance students aged 12-18 auditioned for the opportunity to perform onstage with ESDC, in a dance created for them by veteran company member, Sara Senecal. The selected performers hail from Albany Berkshire Ballet, Art in Motion Dance Academy, Creative Dance Arts, Dance Center of Queensbury, Dance Force of Schenectady, Joann’s Academy of Dance, and Modern Dance with Ginny Martin & Dana Yager.
