Development Manager

Job Title: Development Manager
Reports To: Executive + Artistic Director
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary Range: $80,000–$85,000

Position Summary

The Development Manager leads and executes The Egg’s fundraising strategy across all contributed revenue streams, including membership, grants, foundation support, government funding, corporate sponsorships, and individual giving. Reporting to the Executive + Artistic Director and working closely with Finance and Marketing, this role is responsible for identifying, securing, and stewarding funding to support The Egg’s programming and mission.

This is a unique opportunity to serve as the organization’s first full-time development professional in many years, with the ability to build, shape, and grow contributed revenue for long-term impact.

About The Egg

The Egg is a performing arts venue in Albany, NY, featuring two theaters (980-seat and 440-seat). Owned by the State of New York and operated by the Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center Corporation, The Egg presents a diverse range of performances, supports emerging artists, partners with community organizations, and advances arts and cultural education in the Capital Region.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy
  • Assess and refine development systems, strategies, and performance

Grants & Institutional Funding

  • Research, write, and manage grant proposals and reports
  • Identify and pursue funding from foundations, corporations, and government sources

Individual Giving & Membership

  • Manage donor and member pipelines, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Strengthen and grow the Membership program

Campaigns & Revenue Initiatives

  • Plan and execute annual and special campaigns, including year-end appeals
  • Manage the seat naming campaign, including donor recognition
  • Oversee revenue-generating opportunities such as program book and digital advertising

Operations & Financial Management

  • Collaborate with Finance on tracking, reporting, and compliance
  • Develop and manage project budgets
  • Build and maintain systems to track fundraising activity, deadlines, and revenue projections

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development
  • Demonstrated grant writing experience
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Experience working with budgets or financial tracking

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an arts or similarly sized nonprofit organization
  • Experience developing and implementing fundraising strategies
  • Track record of increasing contributed revenue
  • Experience managing membership or donor programs
  • Familiarity with the Capital Region and local funding landscape
  • Experience with New York State funding and reporting requirements
  • Ability to build or improve systems for tracking development activity
  • Strong relationship management and donor stewardship skills
  • Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable approach

 

Work Environment & Schedule

This position is primarily remote, with periodic in-person meetings, donor engagements, and event support as needed. The schedule is flexible and self-directed in coordination with the Executive + Artistic Director, with an emphasis on meeting deadlines and maintaining consistent communication.

Artistic Programming Manager

Job Description:
The Artistic Programming Manager leads all booking for Egg Presents programming at The Egg, working under the direction of the Executive + Artistic Director. This role is responsible for identifying, securing, and scheduling artists across all disciplines, ensuring a dynamic, balanced season that aligns with The Egg’s artistic vision, audience goals, and financial targets.

Blending curatorial insight with strong negotiation skills, the Artistic Programming Manager drives the day-to-day booking process while contributing to broader programming strategy. This individual plays a key role in shaping the season, building industry relationships, and delivering performances that engage audiences and support The Egg’s continued growth.

Expectations:
This person will have strong relationships with booking agents, managers, artists, other venue owners and promoters. The ideal candidate will be a curator with deep artistic knowledge while also balancing the financial needs of ticket sales and the commercial market. Someone who can put together a season and go after the artists we need to pack the house while also being tapped into the local Capital Region / Hudson Valley scene to build strong local connections with artists and partners.

An unmistakable feature of the capital city’s skyline, the venue houses two theatres – the Kitty Carlisle Hart Theatre (980), and the Lewis A. Swyer Theatre (440)  – encased in a domed, egg-like concrete structure that took 12 years to construct and was completed in 1978. The Egg presents music, art, theatre, comedy, dance and family entertainment year-round.

The Egg itself is owned by the State of New York and managed by the not-for-profit Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center Corporation. Following a transformative six-month renovation in 2025, 2026 marks a pivotal milestone as we work to “Hatch The Egg” with bold new programs and initiatives. This role joins our team at an inflection point, offering a unique opportunity to contribute fresh ideas and help shape our next chapter of growth.

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

Programming & Strategy

  • Support development of programming strategy and contribute to season planning
  • Identify artists and projects that align with artistic, audience, and financial goals

Booking & Artist Relations

  • Lead all booking for Egg Presents (free and ticketed) under the direction of the Executive + Artistic Director
  • Research, pursue, and secure artists across disciplines
  • Initiate outreach, generate offers, negotiate terms, and structure deals
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, managers, and artists

Scheduling & Season Management

  • Build and manage the performance calendar, aligning bookings with venue availability and organizational priorities
  • Track touring trends and artist availability to inform decisions

On-Site Event Management

  • Serve as artist liaison for all Egg Presents performances
  • Manage all payments for Egg Presents events, including artist deposits and settlements. 
  • Make pre-show onstage announcements when Executive + Artistic Director is unavailable
  • Build relationships with Artists to ensure they have an amazing time at The Egg

Financial & Internal Coordination

  • Manage artist payments, including deposits and settlements 
  • Collaborate with internal teams to execute contracts and deliver successful events


Qualities Desired:

  • Deep familiarity with the performing arts landscape
  • Awareness of touring trends and emerging artists
  • Strong ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with artists and their management
  • Proficient in managing multiple bookings, deadlines, and scheduling demands 
  • Confidence in initiating booking conversations and navigating negotiations

 

Schedule & Benefits:
This is a full time position with full benefits including health insurance and pension options. Will include nights and weekends. This role offers the ability to work from home when not needed on site. Flexible scheduling is required to support arts programming and live, on-site performance operations. Remote hours are self-directed and coordinated with the Executive + Artistic Director, with a focus on meeting all deadlines. Regular communication regarding scheduling and workload demands is expected.

Marketing Coordinator

The Egg seeks a full-time Marketing Coordinator to join our team. Reporting directly to the Marketing Director, you will provide essential support for event marketing campaigns, social media, administrative logistics, and community engagement. 

Following a transformative six-month renovation in 2025, 2026 marks a pivotal milestone as we work to “Hatch The Egg” with bold new programs and initiatives. We are also debuting a comprehensive rebrand, introducing refined brand guidelines and a revitalized aesthetic. This role joins our marketing department at an inflection point, offering a unique opportunity to contribute fresh ideas and help shape our next chapter of growth.

In direct collaboration with the Marketing Director: 

  • Maintain marketing administrative calendars and internal organizational tools.
  • Creative content creation & managing social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram, potentially TikTok), including scheduling, posting, and on-platform engagement.
  • Develop email marketing campaigns, including weekly newsletters, member presales, targeted outreach, and post-show follow-ups. 
  • Track press hits and maintain updated media lists. 
  • Build and update event pages in WordPress. 
  • Pick up marketing materials from local vendors. 
  • Tabling at community events. 
  • Streamline show announcement logistics. 
  • Support in-person events through social media content capture and tabling.
  • Lead regional street teams for flyering and grassroots outreach. 

Qualities Desired: 

  • Experience in marketing, specifically within music or live events.
  • Experience in social media management. 
  • A creative thinker with a good sense of design. 
  • Strong administrative and organization skills; the ability to balance the logic of a spreadsheet with the flair of a creative campaign. 
  • A keen eye for social media best practices; you can easily move between professional communication and casual, engaging, and humorous social content. 
  • Technical proficiency (Google Suite, WordPress, Canva, Meta Ads Manager) with the ability to quickly learn new platforms as the organization evolves. 
  • A natural “people person” who enjoys writing, building relationships, and acting as an enthusiastic brand ambassador for everything happening at The Egg.
